1. Developed and run by Lochaber College, Core Skills for the Outdoor Capital of the UK aims to provide school leavers with the opportunity to pursue a career in the emerging outdoor activities sector. This innovative programme is particularly attractive to those who feel disenchanted with traditional learning opportunities, and who face long term unemployment as a result of a lack of core skills. The project aimed to offer 20 young people the chance to gain a Level One VQ in Sport Recreation and Allied Occupation, combined with the opportunity of completing short courses and work placements. Ultimately, the aim was that at least 15 of the 20 participants would go onto gain relevant employment within the outdoor sector.
2. Our findings and expertise can help shape and develop projects. We recently completed an intensive evaluation of a collaborative project designed to create a sustainable education and training infrastructure in tourism, hospitality and catering across Tayside. We evaluated the project from its conception, enabling the project managers to use our findings as a tool in shaping the project in line with their original objectives. This ensured that the project not only realised its goals but also met the requirements of its beneficiaries and the relevant funding bodies.
