About Luke4Life
Luke4Life is a charity raising funds to purchase equipment for premature babies requiring special care and supporting research into pregnancy related illnesses resulting in premature birth.
The ‘Sparkling Hearts Ball’ to be held at The Roxburghe Hotel, on 16th November, 2007 is the charity launch and from this we hope to raise sufficient funds to be able to purchase a Bi-Pap machine for Simpson’s Special Care Babies at The Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. With your help and support we hope to make this an annual event and be able to continue to provide donations to special care baby units throughout the country and to be able to support research into pregnancy related illnesses resulting in premature birth.
This lifesaving equipment can make all the difference to a premature baby who is fighting to survive. Luke4Life was launched in memory of my son who was born prematurely at 30 weeks due to Pre-Eclampsia and who sadly died 6 days later. Most premature babies have difficulties in breathing when born and the Bi-Pap machine provides this assistance while the baby's lungs are immature.
Recent UK wide data indicates that around 1 in 8 babies born require some form of special care. Overall the rate of premature births is rising. This is mainly due to the large number of multiple births. Premature babies are born before their bodies and organ systems have completely matured. These babies may need help breathing, eating, fighting infection and maintaining their body temperature. Medical equipment ensures that each premature baby has the chance to defy the odds, and without it may die.
Please help us to support this very special cause which will more than likely touch each and every one of us at some time in our lives. ‘Help Start a Life’ and give all premature babies a fighting chance.
