Grading for improvement

Event helpline 0131 220 5090

Is the quality of care in Scotland improving?

So that care in Scotland continues to improve, we are changing how we regulate. We want our inspections to be more targeted and to focus more on people who use care services, and their carers.

What’s changing?
Starting in April 2008, care services will be graded against four quality themes at every inspection. The themes are:

• quality of life/experience
• quality of environment/information
• quality of staffing
• quality of management and leadership

The six point grading scale
Against each of these themes, each service will be graded based on the quality of the service they provide as follows:

6 – excellent
5 – very good
4 – good
3 – adequate
2 – weak
1 – unsatisfactory

It will not be possible for care services to achieve good grades unless people who use the service are actively involved.  Come along to hear how inspection is changing and how to better involve people, their families and carers.

You can help improve the quality of care
This event will be of interest to care service providers, people who use services and their carers, and anyone who works in the care sector.

How to apply
Complete the online application form and submit it to us. Spaces are limited and priority will be given to service providers who bring people who use their care service along on the day. We will contact you by 28 November 2007 to confirm if you have a place.
